Ruslan Grinberg - Academic Director, Associate Member of the RAS, Doctor of Economics, Professor

Grinberg Ruslan Semenovich, (1946) is an outstanding economist, who made an impressive scientific career in Russia. He graduated Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1968 with MA degree in Foreign Economics. In 1975 he was awarded a PhD degree at Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy. From 1972 until 1981 he worked at the Research Institute of Price Formation supervised by the USSR State Committee on Prices (Goskomtsen). Since 1981 he has been working at the Institute of International Economic and Political Studies of Russian Science Academy (IMEPI RAN) (currently – Institute of Economics of Russian Science Academy). In 1996 he obtained a Habilitation degree (thesis title: Inflation in Post-Socialist Countries), in 1996 he became a professor, and in 2006 – a corresponding member of Russian Science Academy. In 2003, he became a Director of the Institute of International Economic and Political Studies RAS, from 2005 to 2015 – director of Institute of Economics RAS, since 2015 - Academic Supervisor of Institute of Economics RAS.

R.S. Grinberg has developed critically important scientific knowledge concerning economic theory, economic globalization, economic and political issues in former socialist countries, role of a state in modern economics. R.S. Grinberg impressive research record includes more than 400 works, among them 35 monographs and 8 authoring scientific papers. R.S. Grinberg’s works were published in different countries, including England, Poland, Austria, USA, Germany and others. 

Among his recent books is a monograph titled “Economic Sociodynamics” (co-authored with A.Y. Rubinstein). This monograph presents a new concept which is a completely new development in economic theory. It was published in 2000 in Russia, and then in 2005 it was translated into English and published by Springer Publishing in USA and Germany, 2010 - the second Edition.

In addition to this, R.S. Grinberg is recognized for outstanding achievements as a lecturer at institutes for higher education.
He is:

• a chief of Education and Research Center of post-Soviet studies at the economic faculty of Moscow state University named after M.V. Lomonosov;
• a professor at Moscow School of Economics of Lomonosov Moscow State University and at the Faculty of Management of Moscow Theater Art School where he teaches a course in international economic relations and foreign economies the course "International Economics and Economic Policy";
• a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Salzburg, Austria).

R.S. Grinberg has a profound expertise and a wide range of experiences in the field of economics. In Russia he is appointed:

• a Vice-President of Free Economic Society of Russia;
• a Vice-President of the International Union of Economists;
• an Executive Board member at the Institute of Contemporary Development (INSOR);
• a member of Scientific Council of Russian Federation Security Council of the Russian Federation;
• the Advisor of International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (The Gorbachev Foundation);
• the Editor-in-Chief of the international socio-scientific journal "World of Changes";
• Member of the Expert Council under the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation;
• Member of the Public Chamber of Moscow Region;
• the President of International N.D. Kondratieff Foundation;
• the Honorary President of New Economic Association (NEA);
• a member of Novaya Gazeta Supervisory Board;
• a member of the Intemational Advisory Board of Joumal of Economics and Business, Faculty of Economics of University of Rijeka (Rijeka, Croatia).

R.S. Grinberg is a pioneer in many theoretical areas of economics and his work has been acknowledged by a variety of academic awards such as:

• a Russian Federation state decoration “Order of Friendship”;
• a Certificate of Merit of Russian Science Academy;
• N.D. Kondratieff Gold Medal;
• Silver Medal of Free Economic Society of Russia (2010).

He is also a laureate of the European Award for the Contribution to Economic Science (Wuppertal-Brussels, 2008).

Awarded by Vienna Institute for Advanced Studies for theoretical research in economic policy (Vienna, 2011). Laureate of the Prize of the World Association for Political Economy, «For the contribution to the development of the economic theory» (Shanghai (PRC), 2013 ), Laureate of the Prize of the Polish Economic Society «For the development of the Theory of Economic Sociodynamics» (Warsaw, 2013), Laureate of the Prize of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine «For the development of the Concept of Economic Sociodynamics» (Kiev, 2013); was awarded with Saint Petersburg state University diploma for “contribution to economic science advancement” (Saint-Peterburg, 24th of April 2014); He was awarded the diploma of the French Society of Macroeconomic Research and International Finance (CEMAFI) «For the contribution to the development of the theory of modern economics and social dynamics» (Nice, France, May 6, 2014 ), was awarded with diploma of The International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (The Gorbachev Foundation) “For humanism and social orientation in economic studies” (Moscow, 16th of July 2014) was awarded with Honorary diploma of Russian Liberal economic society for outstanding contribution to economic science advancement (Moscow, 15th of October 2014). In 2015 R. Grinberg was awarded with prize named after M.V. Lomonosov for publication cycle regarding creating original theoretic conception “Economic sociodynamics” (Moscow, 20th of January 2015), awarded the scientific prize for a cycle of works on the economic theory of the modern state by The Italian Institute for Political, Economic and Social Studies EURISPES (Rome, October 2016).

In March 2011, R.S. Grinberg received a commendation from the Government of the Russian Federation for his contribution to the development of economic science and for many years of scientific endeavor.

R.S. Grinberg regularly participates in international scientific conferences in Russia and abroad.
