Alexander Rubinshtein was born in 1947. In 1971 he graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State Unversity, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (speciality – mathematics), PhD in Economics (1976), DSc in Philosophy (1992), Professor (1994), Honoured Scholar of the Russian Federation (2007).

Sphere of scientific interests – general theory and methodology of economics, economics of the social sector, theoretical and applied economics of culture, economics and sociology of art.

Head of Department "Theoretical Economics" of the Institute of Economy (RAS); Head of the Doctoral Committee (specialities: 08.00.01 – economic theory, 08.00.05 – labour economics); Head of the International Discussion Group "Theoretical Economics" (under the IE RAS and the New Economic Association).

Head of the Department for the general theory of arts and cultural policy, the State Institute of Art Studies; Head of the Department of Economics of Arts and Cultural Policy of the Moscow Art Theatre School; Professor at the Moscow School of Economics, Lomonosov Moscow State University; Honoured Professor of Shanghai University of Economics and Finance (China).

Editor-in-Chief: The Journal of the New Economic Association; member of the editorial board: journals Voprosy Ekonomiki, Observatory of Culture; International Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge; Creative and Knowledge Society; The Bulletin of the Institute of Economics, RAS.

Author of more than 250 scientific works on economic theory, economics of the social sector, theoretical and applied economics of culture, economics and sociology of art, including more than 20 books and textbooks; some of them are translated into other languages and published in Germany, Great Britain, Holland and the USA.
